School

SCHOOL BENEFITS

Computer technology helps schools to better educate future business professionals and leaders.  MCFS has helped hundreds of schools throughout Minnesota save money by providing quality high-end, customized systems at a budget price to maximize a school’s return on investment. This is critical in an age of rapid change, technology advancement and limited resources for schools.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

Reusing and recycling these materials from end-of-life electronics conserves natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing new products.

YOUR COMPANY’S BENEFIT

Companies can donate computers without added disposal fees.  It is an easy, economical and secure way for businesses to donate computers and contribute to schools and the community.

Refurbished equipment is placed into schools around Minnesota.

This Equipment includes:

  • Computer Towers & Desktops
-That have a processor equal to or faster then a Pentium 4
  • Laptops
  • 17" CRT Monitors
  • LCD Flat Screens
Refurbished Computers

DATA REMOVAL

MCFS prides ourselves on the ability to permanently and completely remove your data.

Each hard drive received goes though a rigorous scrubbing process and all equipment is kept in a secured area. MCFS staff are the only people with access to the computers until the hard drives are removed from them and are scrubbed.

DRIVE SCRUBBING

Hard drives are run through DBAN Data Erasure Software. DBAN erases all existing data including Confidential, Secret and Top Secret security level data. It covers all recognized international standards and beyond.

Reports are available for any equipment donor upon request.

For more information on DBAN Data Erasure Software please visit their website.

Recycled Boards

Is your equipment outdated? Is it beyond the point of refurbishing?

We say no problem! We take equipment that can not be refurbished for schools.

All that equipment is then recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.

Did you know:

  • On average a computer contains 30 lbs. of hazardous or toxic materials.
  • In 2010 MNCFS recycled 257,677 lbs. of computer equipment.

State and Federal Agencies

We rely on Corporate Partners, State and Federal Agencies to donate computers

If you are a state agency, please note that the Minnesota State Legislature passed legislation in the spring of 2005 allowing MCFS to receive computers from Minnesota State Agencies.

Ferderal Agencies please refer to Executive Order 12999: http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/100841

Minnesota

  • A CRT monitor disposal fee is the only charge associated with a donation. There isn't any other charge for other equipment regardless of its age.
  • We are able to provide a receipt for the equipment, or if you prefer we will sign a receipt provided by your company.
  • Donations are by appointment only. They are received at our warehouse at the correctional facility in Bayport, MN.

Please contact Chris Dopkins, (651) 779-2816, if you would like to schedule an appointment to donate equipment or if you would like additional information regarding the donating your technology.

"The Computers for Schools Program is a blessing to schools who lack funding to purchase enough technology to meet the increasing demand to educate students for future work in a technologically driven society. Please give our thanks to all who were involved in this endeavor."
